Koheletic Thought Movement (also spelled: Qoheletic Thought Movement) is a movement that might have produced the Book of Qohelet (Kohelet) in the Hebrew Bible. The thesis was proposed by Jenry Eli Mandey, a Hebrew Bible scholar from Heidelberg University, Germany, in his dissertation die Koheletische Denkbewegung, published by LIT Verlag in 2023.[1]
The Book of Kohelet is categorised as wisdom literature[2], which was written at the beginning of the Hellenistic period in Israel, around the same time as the Jewish apocalyptic movement.[3] Kohelet polemicised against the ideas of apocalypticism, mostly using apocalyptic language to express his own anti-apocalyptic message. Kohelet's position in the wisdom tradition (late wisdom) is also unique. Kohelet could be seen as a product of a smaller movement of thought that Mandey refers to as "The Koheletic Thought Movement" (die Koheletische Denkbewegung). In his book, Mandey offers deeper insights into the relationship between Kohelet and the apocalyptic movement.
