Kristen Shelley Harris (born November 16, 1976) is a Canadian actress. Harris has performed in several films and television shows in Canada and the United States. She is perhaps best known for starring in the movie Passionflower.

Biography[edit]

Kristen Shelley Harris was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. After high school, Harris moved to Los Angeles. At 17, Kristen Harris studied at the Groundlings Theatre Improv School in Los Angeles.[1] She then moved to Toronto and studied voice performance at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music.[1]

Harris' first professional film role was playing Mary-Louise Parker's sister in the television movie, Vinegar Hill. In 2005, she portrayed Marissa in the Canadian film Lucid.[2] From 2008 to 2013, Harris had the recurring role of Lisa Larkin in the Canadian TV series Less Than Kind, filmed in Winnipeg. In 2011, Harris played the lead role of Beatrice for director Shelagh Carter's film Passionflower for which she won several awards. In 2012, she appeared in two movies that were shown at the Cannes Film Festival: The Lost Dreams Of Narcissus and Echo, The Forest Path.[1] Harris joined the ensemble of writer-director Collin Friesen's 2018 black comedy, Sorry for Your Loss, with Bruce Greenwood, Inbar Lavi, Sandrine Holt, Justin Bartha, and Lolita Davidovitch. In the same year, Harris joined the cast of writer-director David Raymond’s crime thriller, Night Hunter, with Ben Kingsley, Stanley Tucci, Henry Cavill, and Alexandra Daddario. Soon after, Harris was cast in writer-director Assaf Bernstein’s psychological horror film, Look Away (2018), with India Eisley, Jason Isaacs, and Mira Sorvino.

Harris rejoined filmmaker Shelagh Carter for the relationship drama, Into Invisible Light (2018), with Jennifer Dale. Harris joined Aaron Paul for director Christopher Cantwell's thriller, The Parts You Lose (2019), and was then cast in her first Hollywood studio movie, Fox's Breakthrough (2019), with Marcel Ruiz, Topher Grace, Josh Lucas, Sarah Constable, and Dennis Haysbert.

Harris then landed a role in the Bob Odenkirk comedy-drama, Nobody (2021), with Connie Nielsen and Christopher Lloyd.[3] Harris reached co-star status in writer-producer-director Lori Evans Taylor’s horror thriller, Bed Rest (2022), with Melissa Barrera, Guy Burnet, and Paul Essiembre.

Awards[edit]

Harris won two awards for her role in Passionflower. In 2011, Harris won the award for Outstanding Performance in a Drama at the Vancouver International Film Festival.[4] In 2012, Harris was awarded an ACTRA Award of Excellence - Best Performance for a Female Artist (Manitoba) for Passionflower.[5][6] Harris has been nominated several times for Best Lead Actress at European film festivals in Berlin, London, Madrid and Milan.[5]
