Lake Parsippany is a 168-acre (68 ha) lake within Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, Morris County, New Jersey, United States.[1] It is owned, operated, and maintained by the Lake Parsippany Property Owners Association.[2]
History[edit]
The last of the Morris County lake communities to be built,[3]: 87 Lake Parsippany was created in 1933 when developers Warren and Arthur Smadback purchased 760 acres (310 ha) in Parsippany through their holding company, the Daily Mirror Corporation, a division of the New York Daily Mirror newspaper.[3]: 87–88
The developers created an artificial lake and offered 20-by-100-foot (6.1 by 30.5 m) lots for $98.50 with a six-month subscription.[4] At least two lots were required to build a house.[3]: 88
By the end of 1933, the holding company relinquished control of the property to the newly formed Lake Parsippany Property Association.[5]
Recreation[edit]
Membership is required to participate in the recreational activities available on Lake Parsippany, which include swimming, fishing, sailing, kayaking, sports, sunbathing, parties and family activities.[6]
The lake is trout stocked and has three sand beaches, a boat-house, dock, and parkland which are used by members of the lake. The LPPOA also owns a clubhouse which is used for board meetings, community activities, indoor sports, and is available for rent.
Lake Parsippany is a member of the local Hub Lakes athletic organization which includes other local communities: Lake Arrowhead, Cedar Lake, Estling Lake, Indian Lake, Lake Intervale, Mountain Lakes, Rainbow Lake, Rock Ridge, Lake Telemark, Lake Valhalla, and White Meadow Lake. Lake Parsippany participates in bowling, darts, golf, horseshoes, softball, swimming, table tennis, track & field, and volleyball.
Transportation[edit]
Lake Parsippany is between Interstate 80, Interstate 287, and US Route 202 and is close to US Route 46 and NJ Route 10.[7]
