Loughborough Lightning is an English wheelchair basketball team based at Loughborough University. They play in the British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s Premier League. They were founding members of the league.[1] [2] Together with the women's cricket team, the women's rugby union team, the women's cycling team, the women's football team and the women's netball team, the wheelchair basketball team is one of five women's sports teams based at Loughborough University that use the Loughborough Lightning name.[3]
History[edit]
In 2021, with the first season beginning in January 2022, Loughborough Lightning were named as founders of the British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s Premier League alongside Cardiff Met Archers, East London Phoenix and Worcester Wolves.[4] They went unbeaten in the 2022 Women’s Premier League, and were crowned Champions,[5] and then also won the 2023 Women’s Premier League, beating East London Phoenix in the Playoff Finals both times. [6]

Loughborough Lightning play their home games at the Netball Centre in Loughborough University.
