- Comment: Not really enough independent, significant sources. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 02:27, 6 November 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: As explained in this convo, parts of this draft have been copypasted from the earlier, now-deleted Draft:Marcia Drut-Davis, originally created by a different user. My thinking is we need to merge the earlier history into this, and then move this draft into the draft space at Draft:Marcia Drut-Davis. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:47, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
Marcia Drut-Davis is an American author, blogger, and activist who is a pioneering figure and advocate within the childfree movement.
Drut-Davis, who considers herself a supporter of all personal and parenting choices, is an internationally-recognized voice in the movement for acceptance of adults who choose not to have children. Her particular focus is on individuals who face serious stigma and social misunderstanding because of that choice.
On Mother’s Day, May 12th, 1974, Drut-Davis appeared with her then-husband on the U.S. television news show 60 Minutes during an episode profiling three couples who had chosen not to have children. They were filmed explaining this decision to her husband's parents who shared their disapproval on the air. Both 60 Minutes host Mike Wallace and viewers of the show expressed a negative reaction to these childfree couples. The day after her 60 Minutes television appearance, Drut-Davis lost her job as a substitute teacher with the Longwood Central School District in Yaphank, NY. She also received death threats.[1][2]
Between 1974 and 1977, Drut-Davis was president of the Long Island chapter of the National Alliance for Optional Parenthood (formerly National Organization for Non-Parents). She also worked in various roles in sales, including opening up a Long Island branch of Admail, a direct mail coupon company.[3]
In November, 2013, Drut-Davis was interviewed about the release of her new book Confessions of a Childfree Woman on NPR (WQCS) by News and Public Affairs host, Jill Roberts.
Drut-Davis was a keynote speaker at The NotMom Summit held on October 6-7, 2017 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Helen Pidd, a British journalist who is a news writer for The Guardian, featured Drut-Davis in an article in The Guardian published on April 22, 2023 about finding people who embraced a child-free life.
Upon turning 80 years old in 2022, Drut-Davis proclaimed that she had zero regrets about her childfree choice and had lived a life full of joy, adventure, freedom and "heart connections" with many dear and close friends as a result.[4]
Drut-Davis is the author of two best-selling books: Confessions of a Childfree Woman and What? You Don't Want Children?[5][6] She is also featured in two documentaries: "To Kid or Not To Kid" by Maxine Trump, and "My So-Called Selfish Life" by Therese Shechter.[7][8]
