Matt Curran (born Matthew Curran, January 21, 1990) is an American guitarist and singer-songwriter. He is known for a sponsorship with Gibson Brands in 2001 at eleven years old, having started playing guitar as a highly talented and skilled “wonder child” at seven years old.[1]

Early life[edit]

Matt Curran was born Matthew Curran on January 21, 1990, in the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.

Curran was heavily influenced by a variety of renowned musicians and bands including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, George Harrison, and Michael Jackson. Curran is also a funk and power pop fan, influenced by Gary Wright and Michael Jackson.[1]

Career[edit]

Beginnings and Simplify[edit]

The first song that Curran ever wrote at twelve years old was titled “Only in My Dreams,” recorded as a single in 2002 at Dubway Studios in Manhattan, New York City.[2]

He has been invited to play on stage with artists including Les Paul, Dave Mason, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, and Jeff Healey. In 2002, Matt also was the opening act for musician Gavin DeGraw at a music club named The Red Lion in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City.
