Maya Behar
(born June 22, 1976 in Jerusalem) is an Israeli and French theater actress, voiceover talent, singer, creator, and acting teacher.

Biography

Maya Behar was born and raised in Jerusalem. Her father Dan René Behar immigrated from France and was an archaeologist and tour guide, currently living in France. Her mother Jacqueline immigrated from Morocco and for 25 years managed the Moroccan department on Kol Israel's 2nd network as part of background programs (Aliya reception network), is a clothing designer and artist and lives in Maya's childhood home in Jerusalem. Her parents divorced when she was 10 years old. Her older brother is the musician and producer Shai Bachar. Her sister Nadia Behar is a dancer and senior Pilates teacher. At the age of eight, she joined the professional children's choir "Ankor" of the conservatory near the Academy of Music and Dance of Jerusalem, conducted by Arnon Meroz. As part of the choir, she sang a repertoire of classical music, and performed regularly all over the country and abroad. As part of the choir, there were demanding rehearsals of three hours a day. The choir performed regularly at the President's House, the Knesset, Yad Vashem, in many state ceremonies, in opera productions and more.

At the age of 13, she began her acting studies with Khan theater actor Avinoam Mor-Chaim. She majored in theater at the Arts High School in Jerusalem.

When she was 15 years old, she had a regular slot on Channel A of Kol Israel in the program "B'rosh Tsa'ir", in which she read children's stories that she had written herself. The program was hosted by the broadcaster Nava Savion.

Acting studies and the transition to France and New York

In the years 1994 - 1997, she studied acting at an acting studio run by Nissan Nativ (the late).

During her studies at the studio, she participated in the plays "The Crucible" directed by Avishi Milstein, "The Circle" directed by Zeev Shatsky, "Telemachus Clay" directed by Jack Messinger, "Winter Funeral" directed by Yitzhak (Babi) Naman, "The Egg" (with her also as part of the "Podium" festival in Moscow, Russia) directed by Lena Kreidlin, "A Simple Story" directed by Moshe Cliff, "Winnie the Pooh" directed by Zvika Fishzon in collaboration with Boris Svidensky, with whom they also appeared at the Haifa Festival for children's plays.

In the third year, her class even got to go through a master class workshop with the actor Bruce Myers from the "Bouf du Nord" theater under the direction of Peter Brook.

After her studies, Maya began working as a dubbing artist and dubbed dozens of cartoons.

In 1998, she was chosen from among many actresses to represent in France and in French-speaking countries the award-winning play "A touch of Light" (Louis, l'enfant de la Nuit" in French) written and directed by Patricia O'Donovan from the Train Theater in Jerusalem.

The show appeared over 450 times in about a hundred different theaters all over France, Switzerland, Belgium and even in Guadeloupe in the Caribbean.

In the years she lived in France, Maya continued to participate in many acting workshops, including "L'acteur et sa Voix" directed by Catherine Hubeau, actress of the National Theater of France, La Comédie-Française, an acting workshop in front of a camera at Studio Pygmalion and more.

After a five-year stay in Paris, Maya went to New York, where she stayed on the basis of the prestigious "Artist Visa" - Artist Visa Individuals with Extraordinary Ability or Achievement. During the years she lived in New York, she participated in many Fringe plays (Off Broadway), including Theater of Movement with the choreographer Anat Zohar, a dancer with the Inbal troupe, The Shirt written and directed by Avraham Shalom Levy, The Dybbuk adapted by Bruce Myers for two actors, which she also produced and directed and played in it with actor Duane Allen.

During her years abroad, she also worked as a narrator and dubbing in French, English and Hebrew

During her stay, she continued to attend acting workshops, including at the prestigious Stella Adler school, at the HB Studio and more.

Return to Israel

In 2006 Maya returned to Israel. Close to her return, she wrote and composed many songs in three languages: English, Hebrew and French, all of them around the question of her belonging to Israel, her years abroad and her return to Israel. The songs were arranged by the pianist Yaniv Tobenhaus and were included in the playlist of various radio stations. Over the years since her return to Israel, she has played in many fringe plays, including the play interact directed by Lelia Garmezano as part of the Small festival on the stage of Tel Aviv University, under the direction of director Yigil Eliraz, in which she played the lead role, the one-man play Ashari by and directed by Udi Ben Sadia, in the framework of the Teatronto festival, In the play Sonia and Bobak by Oded Lifshitz directed by Yigil Eliraz at the Temuna Theater, in many different productions including the productions of the street theater that created the Pesik Theater, in the play The Receptionist by Adam Bock directed by Elhanan Shapira at the Tsava Theater and the Alley Theater and more. She continued dubbing dozens of cartoons in many dubbing studios, including the role of the fortune teller in the movie "Kung Fu Panda 2", at Alrom Studios and directed by Sharon Cohen.

Studio for acting and performing arts

In February 2010, Maya opened her studio "Maya Behar - Studio for Acting and Performing Arts". To date, the studio has trained over 1,200 graduates from every field. In the studio, people from every profession and of every possible age study who are interested in being exposed and tasting the world of acting and adopting practical tools from it in order to leverage their ability to stand in front of an audience, of all types.

During the Corona years, during the many closures that prevented the holding of face-to-face game workshops, Mia was exposed to the path of transferring lessons online and even released a digital game course.

Since the Corona period and until today, she teaches, along with the secrets of the stage, also the secrets of speaking in front of a camera. In addition to the adult audience she teaches (20+), she also opens empowering and rich acting workshops for youth.

In addition to the workshops she holds in the studio, she also conducts workshops for companies and organizations as well as conducts individual classes and training.

Over the years, Maya maintains a rich blog in which she writes about the healing power of the game and its connection to all areas of life, and she has a sympathetic following.

Over the years, her studio has received extensive interest from the media and receives warm recommendations from her students.

Among the teachers who were invited to master workshops at the studio - Ido Moseri, Amnon Wolff and Yarden Toussia Cohen, who even studied with Maya at the beginning of her career, back when she was a young girl.

Since 2013 she has been a member of the Israeli Actor Studio founded by Amnon Meskin and Oded Kotler.

Personal life Maya is married, mother of three children and lives in Tel Aviv.
