Michael H. Chua is a Singaporean actor, director, and screenwriter, known for his participation in over 400 local and international productions since 2010. Chua has garnered recognition for his versatile acting skills and contributions to the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera.

Early Life and Education

Michael H. Chua grew up in Singapore in the public housing estate of Redhill Close. During his time at Singapore Polytechnic, Chua became actively involved in the Welfare Services Club, engaging in various activities to support the underprivileged. This period marked the beginning of his interest in performance arts.

Chua pursued higher education in Australia, where he obtained a degree in Engineering, followed by postgraduate studies in Computer Science, and later, Information Technology in the United Kingdom. Before embarking on his artistic career, he worked internationally as an independent cybersecurity consultant.[1]

Acting Career

Chua's acting career began unexpectedly in 2010 when he was scouted online to participate in a short film. Since then, he has appeared in a variety of roles across film, television, and online media, showcasing his ability to embody diverse characters.[2]

Notable Works

Ilo Ilo (2014): Chua played a supporting role in this feature film directed by Anthony Chen, which won the Camera D'Or at Cannes and the Best New Director Award at the Golden Horse Awards in 2014.[3]

Certified Dead (2015): In this film directed by Marrie Lee, Chua's portrayal of Ian Lee garnered attention when the film won Best Foreign Film at the 14th Royal Bali International Film Festival (2016).[4]

Worry from Home (2022): This film directed by Chua won the Gold award in the Open Category at the My Singapore New Norm Micro Film Competition.[5]
