Michael Tawadrous works in the furniture manufacturing industry in Nigeria. He is the founder and CEO of VAVA Group, a conglomerate of Vava Furniture Nigeria Limited, Vava Products LLC U.S.A, and Globe Pharmaceutical Cosmetics Nigeria. Vava Furniture, its flagship company, is recognised for its role in the local production of high-quality furniture in Nigeria. He is also a special envoy of the World Fund for Development and Planning (WFDP), United Nations OSAA in Nigeria.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
[edit]Tawadrous was born and raised in a small town in Egypt. He graduated from Assuit University in Egypt at 21 years of age where he studied Commerce Accountancy, after which he got a higher degree at 6th October University. He then furthered his studies by studying International Relations at the University of Liverpool. He also has an MBA from Western Ville University in California, USA.[citation needed]
Career
[edit]He moved to Nigeria when he was hired to manage a furniture outlet in Lagos in 2007.[4] Tawadrous founded VAVA Furniture, a company dedicated to producing locally manufactured furniture. Under his leadership, VAVA Furniture has grown to become a prominent furniture brand in Nigeria. The company is known for its emphasis on high-quality, affordable furniture and its commitment to local production.[1]
He has often emphasised the importance of supporting the local economy by sourcing materials locally and providing employment opportunities for Nigerians. He has been a vocal advocate for policies that support local manufacturing and has praised the Nigerian government's ban on the importation of certain goods, which he believes has bolstered the local furniture industry.[5]
Personal life and interests
[edit]Tawadrous is married to Magy Eskander Tawadrous. He and his wife were awarded chieftaincy titles by the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Gbolahan Lawal in 2021 for their contributions to the community in Lagos, Nigeria.[1]
Through his business and affiliations, he takes part in philanthropic activities like the donation of food items in Lagos during the COVID-19 pandemic to support the citizens of the state in the fight against the disease.[6] He engages in other philanthropic activities like the donations to orphanages through the Egyptian community in Nigeria, serving as the President of the community.[7]
Tawadrous is also an active member of the World Fund for Development and Planning (WFDP), where he currently serves as the Secretary General and contributes to initiatives focused on sustainable development and education.[3]
