Draft:Minecraft: China Edition

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Minecraft: China Edition (Chinese: 我的世界, lit. My World) is a localization of the video game Minecraft for China developed by Microsoft and NetEase.

Development

[edit]

Due to laws surrounding video game publication in China, Microsoft could not acquire the necessary permits to publish Minecraft in the country. In 2016, they announced a "five-year exclusive partnership" with NetEase, a company that had previously partnered with Blizzard Entertainment on publishing various games in China.[1][2][3] Minecraft: China Edition was released in August 2017, and the game had been downloaded 30 million times by October of that year.[4] In 2018, the game had been downloaded 100 million times.[5]

NetEase has the right to enforce intellectual property claims regarding Minecraft in China, and in 2022 won over $7 million in a copyright infringement lawsuit against Shenzhen Mini Play Company.[6]
