Moe Thandar Wynn is an Australian researcher in Business Process Management. She is a Professor at Queensland University of Technology known for contributions to the field of business process management, workflow management, process automation, and process mining.[1]

Career[edit]

Wynn was awarded a PhD from the Queensland University of Technology in Feburary 2007. Her thesis was on the topic of "Semantics, Verification, and Implementation of Workflows with Cancellation Regions and OR-joins" which was completed under the supervision of David Edmond, Arthur ter Hofstede, and Wil van der Aalst[2].

Wynn's early work in process automation contributed key theoretical contributions to the workflow language YAWL[3]. Since then Dr. Wynn's research has shifted towards process mining and has focused on data quality[4] and its application in the healthcare system [5], insurance [6], and more broadly in industry[7]. Wynn has served as vice-chair and steering committee member of the IEEE Task Force on Process Mining[8]. As IEEE Working Group Chair, she serves to re-standardise the eXtensible Event Stream (XES) and input data format for process mining[9].

Wynn leads the Process Science Academic Program (formerly Business Process Management) at Queensland University of Technology[10] and co-leads the Data For Discovery within QUT’s Centre for Data Science [11] and has been appointed as a member of the Australian Research Council College of Experts for the period of 3 years (2023–2025)[12].

Selected awards and industry projects[edit]

  • Holds a joint US patent for the Evaluation of Synchronization Gateways in Process Models[13]
  • Joint research grant Mathematical Decision Support to Optimise Hospital Capacity and Utilisation[14]
  • Joint research grant Improved Businesss Decision-Making via Liquid Process Model Collections [7]
  • QUT Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Award in 2018 (Research, Partnerships, and Engagement) and for Research Excellence in 2022[15]
