Introduction[edit]

The Montreal Bicycle Specification was first proposed in 2024 in Montreal During Go Velo Montreal [1]. It was intended to help standardized consumer bicycles with the intention of simplifying the consumer experience. It is also intended that the standard reduces the inventory requirements and lead time of components in the local bicycle repair industry.

Drive-Train Specifications[edit]

7 Speed[edit]

Thread-on freewheel and hub.

  • Threaded hub: 1.375" x 24 TPI

Chain[edit]

  • Chain Spacing 12.7 mm
  • Chain Width 7mm

Bottom Bracket[edit]

Bottom Bracket Specification [2]:

  • Shell width and threading 1.37x24 TPI
  • Shell Diameter 68 mm
  • Shell Threading BSA Threaded
  • Stem Length: 107 mm [3]
  • Cartridge Bearing
  • JIS Square taper


Front Chain Ring[edit]

A Single front chainring

  • 44T Tooth

Crank Arm[edit]

  • 170mm Crank Arm Length

Pedal Mounting[edit]

  • 9/16" x 20 tpi [4]

Wheel Specifications[edit]

Both wheels should be 700C.

Front Wheel[edit]

  • 700C

Back Wheel[edit]

  • 700C

Frame Specifications[edit]

  • Front 100 mm
  • Rear 135 mm
  • Headset ### TBC
  • Seatpost Tube Size 27.2mm
  • BB 63 mm BSA threaded
  • Brake Mounting for caliper brakes 6mm
  • Upper steerer tube dimensions of 28.6 mm

Brake Mounting Point[edit]

Holes should be available for mounting caliper brakes

  • Hole Dimension: 6 mm

Accessory Mounts (optional)[edit]

Any threaded inserts for accessories use M5 threads.


Brakes[edit]

The brakes are to be cable caliper brakes.
