Muduganti Jithender Reddy (August 8, 1961 – April 9, 1987) was a prominent Indian political and social figure, known for his dedication to public service and his stand against extremism.

Early life and education[edit]

He was born in Myadampally Village, Mallial Mandal, Karimnagar District, the son of Sukanya Devi (mother) and Malla Reddy (father). He had two siblings: Rajitha Devi (younger sister) and Ravinder Reddy (younger brother). Jithender Reddy completed his Class X education at Saraswathi Shishumandir High School in Karimnagar in 1977 and pursued his Intermediate education at SKNR Government College in Jagtial in 1980, he obtaining a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 19831983.

Political and social contributions[edit]

Reddy joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its student wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He served as the President of Mallial Mandal Samithi from 1970 to 1976. In addition to his political engagements, he actively participated in social service and was associated with the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) as the Andhra Pradesh Prantha Karyavaha, contributing to various social upliftment initiatives. His leadership and activism were not without challenges. He faced opposition from leftist student organizations, particularly the PDSU.

Impact on Naxal Movement[edit]

The Naxalite movement, particularly the Peoples War Group (PWG), recognized Jithender Reddy's influence and posed him as a formidable challenge. He thwarted their attempts to influence college youth and undermine his organization's efforts. As a result, he became a prime target for the Naxalites.

Political aspirations and death[edit]

In 1986, Jithender Reddy entered the political arena by contesting the Mandal Praja Parishad election as a BJP candidate. Despite political pressure, he valiantly fought against Naxalite threats and violence. On April 9, 1987, he was ambushed by around 15 Naxalites while traveling from Mydampally to Jagtial on a motorcycle. Though outnumbered, he fought for over two hours before succumbing to the attackers.
