Naheem Houston, who goes by Saint Naheem, is a former music journalist, entrepreneur, author, and songwriter. He's best known for covering celebrity content as an Online Editor at 97.9 The Beat and MAJIC 94.5, in Dallas, Texas.[1]
Early Life
[edit]Naheem was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Langston Middle School.[2]
Radio Career
[edit]In 2012, Naheem started interning for 97.9 The Beat in Dallas, TX, and worked with the rapper Juvenile at an event.[3]
On February 27, 2015, Naheem made a cameo appearance in the music video "Beat Up the Block" by Dorrough featuring Lil Boosie. As of September 8, 2024, the video has over 7.8 million views on YouTube.[4]
On July 1, 2015, Naheem worked with DJ Khaled at 97.9 The Beat.[5]
On April 10, 2017, Naheem started working for Urban One (formerly Radio One) in Dallas as an Online Editor for the hip hop station 97.9 The Beat, and the Urban AC station MAJIC 94.5 (formerly Boom 94.5).[6]
On April 25, 2017, Naheem worked with Slim Thug.[7]
Over the course of his career, Naheem has written articles, photographed, and filmed interviews for a number of artists and comedians, including Rico Recklezz[8], Sevyn Streeter[9], Ice Cube[10], Yella Beezy[11], DeRay Davis[12], Bazzi[13], Chanté Moore[14], and Fredo Bang.[15]
On May 29, 2018, Naheem did a Q&A interview with Brad Horne, professionally known as Dirt, who's best known for his engineering work on T.I.'s 2008 single "Whatever You Like" from Paper Trail.[16][17]
On March 8, 2019, he quit his job as an Online Editor at Urban One.[18]
Music Business Career
[edit]Naheem released the single "Shittin' on the Game," under the name Yung B from Farlin, in 2012, gaining placement on the mixtape This That Southern Smoke Vol. 2 hosted by DJ Smallz and T.I., as track 23. As of September 8, 2024, the project has over 430,000 views.[19] The lyrics from his song, "Shittin' on the Game," were referenced in a 2012 National Library of Medicine peer-reviewed study, in Table 4, about examples of alcohol brand promotion in urban music culture.[20]
On July 11, 2013, Naheem was featured in the Riverfront Times for the success of his 2012 single "Shittin' on the Game," which was produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Jayson Bridges, known professionally as Koko of Basement Beats, his company 7 Star Dreams helping aspiring artists make it in the Music industry, and for his involvement in the community.[21] On December 4, 2013, Naheem's company, 7 Star Dreams, LLC, was mentioned in the St. Louis Business Journal, as one of the 100 startups with profiles on AngeList, to watch in St. Louis.[22]
On March 7, 2017, he released the single "U Ridin or Naw" under the name Farlin Ave.[23] The song was mixed by Brad Horne.[24]
On October 7, 2017, he released the digital album My Life Brazy, featuring the previously released song "Shittin' on the Game."[25]
On May 7, 2023, he released the single "Black Sheep of the Family," under the name Saint Naheem.[26] On June 17, 2023, he released the single "Victory Lap."[27]
Personal Life
[edit]In 2009, Naheem was a participant in the program Staging Old Masters: Former Prisoners Perform at the Pulitzer.[28] He is a former gang member and drug dealer, that later joined Better Family Life, a St. Louis nonprofit organization.[29]
In December 2009, he attended a workshop about physical health, spirituality, and positive relationships at Florissant Valley Community College, where he was a student majoring in communication arts.[30]
On April 4, 2021, Naheem published the book A New Creature in Christ: I'm Not Who I Once Was on Amazon.[31]
and he he married Cassiopea Houston in 12/7/13 2013, his son was born in 11/29/13, his son is also named Naheem Houston.
On July 9, 2024, Naheem was featured on the prison YouTube channel, Blood on the Razor Wire TV, where he talked about his childhood, growing up in St. Louis on Farlin Ave, which is located in the Penrose neighborhood, gang life, street life, his faith in Jesus, and redemption.[32]
