Nancy Drew books at a public library

The Nancy Drew Diaries is an ongoing children's mystery novel series that started in 2013, and is aimed at readers aged 8-12. It is published by Simon & Schuster. It follows the character of the same name, and is a reboot of the Girl Detective Series, which ran from 2004-2012, and had 47 titles and 3 "SuperMysteries". The series is told in a first-person point-of-view, and before the first chapter and after the last there are diary entries to set up and to act as epilogue to the story. There are 26 books in the series, including one holiday special published in 2018 that also features The Hardy Boys[1]. This is the only book of the series that is unnumbered. It was originally only published as an eBook and hardcover, the paperback edition came out two years later in 2020.

The series follows Nancy and her friend's adventures as usual, featuring cousins George Feyne and Bess Marvin, and Nancy's steady boyfriend Ned Nickerson frequently as side characters. The stories are more episodic than the Girl Detective Series, so far not featuring any direct duologues or trilogies, unlike it's predecessor. Nancy is frequently travelling or on vacation when she finds mysteries in this series, such as in The Stolen Show[2]. In the main series she is more frequently hired to investigate a mystery, such as in Sabotage at Willow Woods[3]. There are themes of environmentalism throughout the series, which also happened in the Girl Detective Series. One of the books follows fundraising for a no kill animal shelter, while another is interrupted by an environmental group's protests.

This is the first series to be available in three different formats; paperback, hardcover (with dust jacket), and eBooks. At first there were multiple books in the series published a year, with as many as 4 being published in both 2013 and 2015, but since 2022 only one volume has been published a year.

Books 1-4 were released in a box set in November 2013[4], and a boxed set of the first ten books was released in September 2020 for the 90th Anniversary of the Character [5]. In addition, the first three titles were packaged in a single paperback book in June 2016[6]. Also available are unabridged audio books for CD or downloads, read by Jorjeana Marie.[7]

Artist Erin McGuire[8] has served as the cover artist since the start of the series.
