Draft:National Hydroecology Burrito Day

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

National Hydroecology Burrito Day (NHBD) [1] is an annual celebration that occurs on April 12th of each year where hydrologists, primarily within the United States, gather together to eat burritos. The holiday can also be observed by non-experts gathering to eat burritos with hydroecologists or ecohydrologists[2].

Hydroecology Burrito Day originated as a small gathering while Sam Zipper was completing his doctoral degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The first national celebration of Hydroecology Burrito Day (NHBD) on record occurred in 2021[3] and has since been celebrated formally by research groups at universities and informally among individual hydrologists in states including Alabama [4], Florida [5], Virginia [6], and New York [7]. The holiday is officially recognized as an unofficial holiday by the American Geophysical Union's Hydrology Subsection Student Subcommittee [8].
