Controversies[edit]

Incident at Pub[edit]

In June 2024, the Greater Chennai City Police[3][4] registered a case against a reporter from News Tamil 24x7[5][6][7][8] and others for allegedly creating a ruckus and harassing women at a pub in Nandanam[9]. The incident occurred at Big Bull Lounge, where individuals who were denied entry after hours caused a disturbance. Reporter Sudharsan and others reportedly used abusive, denigrating, and obscene remarks against women present at the pub, which were later broadcast on various channels.

Following four complaints from three women and a man, the Saidapet police registered a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act. The case is currently under investigation.

Coverage of Mansoor Ali Khan Incident[edit]

In November 2023, News Tamil 24x7 was criticized for its coverage of actor Mansoor Ali Khan's[10] controversial comments during a press interaction for the movie "Leo." Khan made misogynistic remarks about not having "bedroom scenes" with actress Trisha and boasted about his experience with rape scenes in films. The comments were widely condemned, leading to backlash from various quarters, including actress Trisha and director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Despite the controversy, some Tamil news channels, including News Tamil 24x7, were criticized for their sensationalist coverage. On November 20, 2023, the channel, along with Thanthi TV and Polimer News, aired footage of women at a Chennai pub, chasing them with cameras and condemning them for being "half-dressed" and "drunk." This incident highlighted ongoing issues of misogyny and sensationalism in Tamil media.

The Chennai police later registered an FIR against a News Tamil 24x7 journalist[11] and five others following complaints about the harassment and shaming of women at the pub. This incident further emphasized the problematic aspects of media coverage in the region.
