Under his leadership, the organization expanded its network to over 101 K-12 and preschools nationwide.[1] Beyond his contributions to education, Nirvaan Birla is also noted for his efforts in promoting social causes related to youth and education.[2]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Born into the prominent Birla family, Nirvaan is the son of Yash Birla and Avanti Birla. He pursued his college education at HR College of Commerce and Economics before going abroad for further studies.[3]

He did his MA in Management at the University of Westminster in London, gaining practical experience through internships at Newby Teas UK, Sapien Capital, and Motilal Oswal Financial Services.[4][5]

Birla Open Minds[edit]

Nirvaan Birla, as the managing director and promoter of Birla Open Minds (BOM), transformed the company from a loss-making unit in 2017 to a significant educational entity. Under his guidance, BOM expanded from 17 schools to 143. Nirvaan implemented a sustainable financial model, focusing on increasing royalties from the curriculum and additional income through learning materials and uniforms. He also restructured the company, consolidating brands and increasing focus on the core business of providing quality K-12 education.[4]

He established Birla Open Minds Education, expanding it to over 140 schools across more than 100 cities in 22 states.[6][7] Additionally, he collaborated with the Government of Uttarakhand and NGOs like Vedanta Foundation to provide job training to over 10,000 students. Nirvaan aims to expand Birla Open Minds to over 1000 schools.[8]

Birla Braniacs[edit]

Birla Brainiacs, founded by Nirvaan Birla, is an ed-tech platform offering hybrid homeschooling and skill development for students from kindergarten to 12th grade. Launched in April 2020, it faced competition from established players in the ed-tech space. It recently reached 10,000+ paid subscribers in India, Europe and America.[6] Despite these challenges, Birla Brainiacs achieved significant user growth, reaching over 3 lakh users on its e-learning platform. The platform's revenue showed a strong upward trajectory, crossing ₹2 crore in the first quarter of FY 2022-23. Birla Brainiacs reflects Nirvaan Birla's vision of leveraging technology to modernize education and make it more accessible.[4][9]

Music[edit]

Nirvaan Birla, with a decade of training in Indian classical music, has performed internationally in countries like Switzerland and Russia, captivating audiences of over a thousand. Nirvaan never envisioned music as his primary career, focusing instead on business. However, music holds a special place in his life; he has recorded a few songs and considers it a potential alternative career path.[2]

He has developed a keen interest in Indian classical music from a young age, influenced by his family's spiritual and mystical inclinations. He has trained to perform various raagas and learned to play the harmonium. Initially, Nirvaan showcased his musical talents to family and friends at his home in Malabar Hill, Mumbai. His repertoire includes playing raagas and covers of Bollywood songs.[4]

He also released his own song, 'Alvida'.[10]
