Background[edit]

On November 18th 2022, work began on an EP then known as "Upon A Turntable". This EP was intended to be made up of 5 tracks, only 2 of which were even written, but the project was scrapped relatively quickly. A few weeks later, the idea to rework the previous EP into a new EP called "magnets" came about. This was also intended to have 5 songs, two being the only two recorded from 'Upon A Turntable" and the other three being new songs. These songs were:

  1. What Gives You Power?
  2. Driving My Mind
  3. Past Summer
  4. 3:30 AM
  5. She Watches Her Wrist
  • ("3:30 AM" and 'She Watches Her Wrist being the 2 from "Upon A Turntable")
  • ("What Gives You Power?" and "3:30 AM" were the original titles for the songs, in order, "Lost In Myself" and "Descent")
  • ("Past Summer" was never written)

This project was also scrapped, however not long after it was, the idea to release just one of the 5 songs and to work towards something much bigger came about. On May 26th 2023, work officially began on Porcelain Lizard's debut album, 'No Questions Please Because I Have No Answers' using "Lost In Myself", "Driving My Mind", "3:30 AM" and "She Watches Her Wrist" as the basic foundation tracks. The first new song to be written for the album was "Smoke Detectives", originally titled "Smoke Detector Sally" as a joke. Track 1, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 & 12 followed in the weeks after, finishing the track list.

Some trivia on the album :

  • "Tomorrow Reminds Me Of Now" begins with a reversed snipped of Porcelain Lizard's first single 'Rush".
  • "Let It Go On" is based around the exact same chords as "Driving My Mind", except one which is major instead of minor.
  • "Beauty" was written and recorded all in the first take.
  • "Lost In Myself (Revisited)" is a remake of the single Lost In Myself released a few months before the album, except this version removes all of the vocals and replaces them with an extensive and intricate guitar solo, which makes use of melodies from the original vocal track.

Cover artwork[edit]

The cover of 'NQPBIHNA' is a image digitally designed by Luke Mullins, depicting "an abstract picture of artificial intelligence" which, as Luke thought, perfectly matched the mood of the album and the atmosphere it lies in.

Singles[edit]

"Lost In Myself" was released on March 25th 2023. This was Porcelain Lizard's first release to feature vocals and first new material since the 2022 remake of his 2020 deeply melodic, lo-fi, trance song 'Rush'. At the time, wasn't specifically teasing this album, it was just teasing new music to come in general. However, in reflection, it is now seen as the album's lead single.

Critical Reception[edit]

Shortly after the release of the album, 'NQPBIHNA' proved to be Porcelain Lizard's most successful release to date. It has gained the most streams per release of any of Porcelain Lizard's projects and was received by the bands largest audience to date. It has also been said to be their best project to date too.
