Early life and education[edit]

Pre-Covid era[edit]

Before graduating from Gulu University, Manuel got his first job from his former classmate Opii Bitek Jibidayo who was a co-founder and manager of a youth led water drilling team. He served as the Accounting Officer for the company. During this time, he was talent spotted by Water4 who hired him as their Anglophone Program Reporting Champion. He went on to serve Uganda Small Scale Industries Association as the Regional Coordinator for Northern Uganda, a position that earned him recognition for exceptional performance in the association.

Covid-era

The pursuit for a new employment challenge took Manuel to the world of occupational assessment and certification where he contributed towards processing candidates for skills assessment and thereafter certifying them.

Manuel has currently enrolled for a Masters of Science in Climate Change and Development at Makerere University and is transitioning his career to solving the triple planetary crisis; Climate Change, Pollution, Biodiversity loss.

Personal life[edit]

Between August 2017 and January 2019 Manuel discontinued himself from employment to fix his heath upon suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder that manifested upon the tragic death of his younger brother in August 2015.

Manuel pays allegiance to the Sudoku puzzle and in his free time he sets a 3min timer to complete a piece. Diet wise, he calls himself a BioActivist Consumer since he loves home made and plant based foods. Home made yoghurt is his favorite drink and recently he has found love in raw jackfruit stew.

Odong Emmanuel Kilara[edit]

Odong Emmanuel Kilara (born 1st January 1993) is a Ugandan sustainability enthusiast. Odong loves to be called Manuel. Manuel previously worked for Water4 as the Anglophone Program Reporting Champion and at the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association (USSIA) as the Regional Coordinator for Northern Uganda. During his tenure at USSIA supported small and medium industries in Northern Uganda in acquiring 7 product certifications from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and 1 manufacturer (Nile Roofings Limited) in securing the highly coveted Authorized Economic Operator permit.

Early life and Education[edit]

Manuel was born in Nsambya Hospital, Kampala, Uganda and grew up in the suburbs of Naguru, Makerere and Bukoto in Kampala, Uganda before his family moved to Gulu, Uganda upon the death of this father. His father Eng. Kilara John Okot was a Sewerage Engineer by profession and was an alumni of Namilyango College Schoo and the 1978 Civil Engineering class of lMakerere University and. His mother Ida Lanyom dropped out of school during the Amin regime in Uganda and is currently a small holder farmer.

Manuel attended Bat Valley Primary School in Kampala and Christ the King Demonstration Primary School in Gulu District, Northern Uganda. For his secondary education, he went to St. Mary's College Lacor for his Uganda Certificate of Education (U.C.E) and to Restore Leadership High School for his Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (U.A.C.E). He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a bias in accounting from Gulu University on 9th January 2016. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Climate Change of Development at Makerere University.
