Pariwan is a village located in the Kulgam district of the Jammu and Kashmir union territory in India. The village is part of the Kulgam block and is governed by a local Panchayat.[1]

Geography

Pariwan is situated at an elevation of approximately 1739 meters (5705 feet) above sea level. The total area of the village is 98.7 hectares. It is located 9 km from the sub-district and district headquarters at Kulgam.[2]

Demographics

According to the 2011 Census of India, Pariwan has a population of 1,566 people residing in 301 households. The gender distribution is nearly equal, with females constituting 49.4% of the population. The overall literacy rate of the village is 53.1%, with female literacy at 22.0%.[2]

Pariwan village is administered under a Panchayat system. The village falls within the Kulgam block, with its Gram Panchayat located in Pariwan itself. The nearest statutory town is Kulgam, situated 9 km away.[1]

Economy

The local economy is predominantly agrarian, with carpet weaving being a notable handicraft in the village. The entire cultivated area is irrigated, relying on local canals.[3]

Pariwan has a range of educational facilities including government-run primary, middle, and secondary schools. For higher education, students generally travel to the nearby town of Kulgam or the city of Srinagar.[3]

Infrastructure

The village is connected by a network of pucca (paved) and kuccha (unpaved) roads, with public and private bus services available. However, there is no railway station within a 10 km radius.[3]
