Paul Rivett (born in 1967 in Pickering, Ontario) is a noted Canadian businessman. He is the Founder of Tevir Capital [1], a Private Equity firm in Toronto, and formerly the President of Fairfax Holdings until February of 2020[2].
Paul Rivett was born and raised in Pickering, Ontario to immigrant parents from the United Kingdom and Poland. He received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Toronto in 1990, followed by a Master's of Industrial Relations in 1992 and a Law degree in 1996, both from Queen's University. [3]
Paul Rivett began his legal career at the firm Blake, Cassels & Graydon where he learned about the world of mergers and acquisitions, later moving on to work at multinational firm Shearman & Sterling. [4]In 2004, Paul made the jump from law to join Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, where he held a variety of roles, including Chief Legal Officer, Vice President, Operations and Chief Operating Officer, before becoming President in 2013. During his time at Fairfax, he initiated the company's innovation lab and FairVentures group, which invested in several startups. Rivett retired from Fairfax in 2020. [5]
After his retirement from Fairfax, Paul Rivett played a key role in the acquisition of Torstar, publisher of the Toronto Star. [6]. Paul exited Torstar in 2023. [7]
Paul currently serves as the Chairman of GreenFirst Forest Products [8] and of Chorus Aviation[9]. He has previously served as chair of several other notable boards, including Torstar [10], Recipe Unlimited[11], VerticalScope [12] (TSX:FORA) and Vice-Chair of Fairfax Africa[13]. Other past Board Roles include Peak Athletics (Bauer & Eastin Sports), TeamSnap, Golf Town & Sporting Life[14], Dexterra, NorthStar Gaming[15], MEGA Brands, Resolute Forest Products, Arctic Gateway Group, AGT Foods, Canadian Press, and The Brick[16].
