The High-capacity mass transit route (HCMTR) is one of the three ring roads proposed for Pune city, India. Cities increasing population is overloading roads, hence the idea of construction this road will reduce load on existing roads. Such a ring road proposal was made in 1978-82 but no such was constructed. This proposed route will pass through the following suburbs Bhopodi, Aundh, Shivajinagar, Erandavana, Kothrud, Karve Nagar, Duttawadi, Parvati, Bibewadi, Wanori, Salasbury Park, Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Kalyaninagar, Yerawada and Kalas. The average speed on this road will be 21 kmph.[1] However honorable deputy CM of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar has proposed to construct neo metro on this route. This unclears on construction of this route as PMC has allocated ₹ 112 crore for this route. [2]
Proposed neo metro[edit]
Mahametro has proposed a neo metro on this route. This will replace BRTS. The neo metro will be elevated and will have 45 stations. The estimated deadline is 2028-29. The DPR of this route is submitted to Mahametro by PMC. The estimated cost of this project is ₹ 4900 crores.[3]
Objective of this road[edit]
This road is proposed for the following objectives:
- To improve public transport mobility on roads by reduction of traffic congestions. This will also increase safety on road.
- To save time and vehicle operation cost. As there will be less congestion this will increase average speed on roads which eventually will result in less travel time and good average per unit of fuel for vehicles.
- To reduce pollution due to congestion of traffic of both air and noise. This will also help to make environment clean and increase fresh air. Less congestion will also reduce noise pollution.
Detail of Project[edit]
- A 35.96 km long elevated six lane road will be constructed.
- Center two lanes will be dedicated to Pune's BRTS. 4 lanes will be dedicated to private vehicles.
- The entire road will have 17 up ramps and 16 down ramps.
Basically this route is designed for heavy traffic and four wheel vehicles similar to public amenities in China. The total width of the road will be 24 meters. Total of 279.77 hectors of land will be required for this project which will lead to cutting down of 1982 trees so NGT has asked for environmental clearance to PMC.[4] [5] A neo metro will be constructed in place of BRTS on this route with stations at Ambedkar Chowk - Savitribai Phule Pune University - Senapati Bapat road - Kelewadi - Paud Phata - Alankar Police Station - Siddhi Garden - Senadat Police station - Sanas playground - Laxminarayan Chowk (Swargate) - City Pride Multiplex - Marketyard - Gangadham Chowk - Bibewadi - Lullanagar - Jambhulkar Chowk - Fatimanagar - Ghorpadi - Pingle vasti - Wadgaon Sheri - Viman nagar - Pune International Airport - Vishrantwadi - Deccan College - Khadki Methodist Church - Bhopodi - Ambedkar Chowk. This route will be circular and 43 km long. [6]
