Rafał 'Tarlachan' Łyszczarz (born Rafał Adam Łyszczarz, 7 December 1994), often referred to by his stage name Tarlachan or Тарлахан, is a Polish musician, best known as the guitarist of the black metal band Batushka and modern metal band SHΛDΘHM.

Career[edit]

Tarlachan was born Rafał Adam Łyszczarz in Bytom but lived most of his life in Będzin, raised Atheist, and started playing guitar at age thirteen. He goes by the stage name Tarlachan and he is the guitarists of the bands Batushka, which he joined in late 2018 and is now one of the composers of Batushka's music as well as one of the people in charge of technical setup for live shows, and SHΛDΘHM which him along with Paweł Pavulon Jaroszewicz, Adrian Klama Meissner, Błażej Kasprzak and Kuba Śliwowski founded in 2022.

He is also known for his contributions with the following bands: Sunday's Red Sky, Black Stocking, The POKS as well as production, mixing and recording participation in albums of bands such as Las Trumien, Pure Bedlam, Profeci, Deathyard, J.D. Overdrive and Grieving among others[1]

In the early 2010s, inspired by metalcore music, Tarlachan formed a deathcore band I Own The World[1][2], that he was a guitarist and backing vocalist of, which was first time we could hear Tarlachan screaming.

In 2016 him and two other members of I Own The World joined the band Whisperbird and for a brief time worked on some singles and rehearsed but soon parted ways due to lack of time as most of the members had daily jobs or collage to attend.

In 2017 first serious drafts of Nomen Nominandum started appearing in the form of more heavy oriented music written mostly on 7-string guitars but in following years the band changed directions to more musically open-minded approach and the singles released in 2019 were far from heavy, mixing elements of ambient genre with slight inspirations from electropop approach and distorted guitar parts sprinkled on top of it.

In 2020 him and the rest of Batushka's lineup used the opportunity of the lockdown and met to write new Batushka's music, which led to the release of Raskol EP and later Black Liturgy Live album and Heavenly King EP. There are few interviews with Tarlachan as Тарлахан where he goes in depth about Batushka's writing and creation process.[3][4][5][6][7]

In 2021 Tarlachan joined pop-metal band Hira and in the following year worked with them on releasing 3 singles and 2 music videos. The band took a break in the early 2023.

In 2022 during Batushka's European tour Tarlachan joined HORE to play the guitar and sing backing vocals live.

In 2024, K. Ramirez Guitars and Basses created for Tarlachan a custom V shaped 8-string guitar and 9-string custom design for Batushka's use and 9-string Iceman-inspired custom design guitar for SHΛDΘHM's use.

Education[edit]

Tarlachan's education is IT with graphic design specialty, he graduated in 2014. He is entirely self-taught when it comes to playing the guitar, writing music, recording and mixing music.
