About

Red Saber, formally known as Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, is a fictional character originating from the Japanese anime spin-off Fate/Extra (2010) Created by TYPE-MOON. And her first anime appearance being in TYPE-MOON's Carnival Phantasm (2011). Red Saber is the heroine of Fate/Extra. The resemblance between her and the original Saber was intentional, meant to get people to play the game, as Saber was a very popular character among TYPE-MOON fans. She was summoned by Hakuno Kishinami to participate in the Holy Grail War and acts as the game's Servant Protagonist.

She is also featured as a major supporting character in other TYPE-MOON projects such as Fate/Extra CCC Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star Fate/Extella: LINK Fate/Extra: Last encore.

Nero is a Saber-Class Servant and is very powerful, swift, confident, and proud. She's often very haughty and battle hungry. She's very confident in her abilities and recognizes others with powerful abilities, She's the main heroine of the sub-series Fate/Extra and the adaptions that follow. Her character and several costumes for her character are also featured in Fate/Grand Order. Available as an Saber and Caster Class Servant of Ritsuka Fujimaru.

Unlike Artoria Pentdragon, her character design inspiration, she has no "Alter". However, in Fate/ Grand Order Nero Draco or "Beast Nero" is available. Nero Draco also known by the aliases "The Whore Of Babylon", "Sodom's beast", "Beast VI", and "Mother of Harlots." The beast possessing Nero in this costume also known as the "Mother of Harlots", is theorized to be Manaka Sajyou from Fate/Prototype.

Red Saber's character is based of the 5th Roman emperor Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus. But her storyline, gender, and appearance are all fictitious and historically incorrect.

Backstory

Red Saber was born in 37 AD her father was Gnaeus cousin of the fourth emperor Claudius and her mother Agrippina the younger sister of the third emperor Caligula. When Nero was born, Caligula ruled Rome, but was murdered in 41 AD. Claudius became the next emperor of Rome, married Agrippina and adopted Nero. However Nero wasn't next in line to the throne, but it was a ploy by Agrippina to make Red Saber the next emperor of Rome to put herself in power. In 51 AD Nero married Octavia and became a member of the royal family, Claudius was murdered by Agrippina in 54 AD. Nero Became the emperor and decided to bestow wealth upon the citizens to win their favor, and she did.

Nero decided to change the way the senate was run, and the senate became hostile towards her. Nero's mother grew in power as the senate came to hate Nero, and because Agrippina poisoned Nero as a child she had to do what her mother told her to. That was until she publicly executed Agrippina, and along with Agrippina went the antidote. As Red Saber's health deteriorated so did her mental state. She began executing her enemies like it was nothing, and anyone's whose opinion opposed hers she executed as well, executing her mentor and even her wife Octavia who was accused of adultery.

Before the Senate could intervene to overthrow Red Saber, in 64 AD the great fire of Rome started a fire so great that it burned more than three Roman districts. It was later revealed that the fire was started by her so that she could create Domus Aurea, the Noble Phantasm of Saber Nero (Bride) in Fate/Grand Order.

Nero Blamed the Christians for the fire and began arresting and executing many of them. The revolt began but Nero did not do anything, she thought that the favor of her people would be enough to extinguish the flames of rebellion, but they did not rise up to stop the offenders. The Senate separated themselves from Nero when they saw she did nothing to stop the rebellion. They branded her a traitor of Rome. Nero fled Rome with four of her closest allies. She tried to end her own life, but couldn't and asked one of her closest soldiers to do so.

The Senate retracted their order to execute her, but by the time she was discovered it was too late. She was on the verge of death when the soldier who found her tried to save her by covering her wound with his cloak, when he realized it was futile, he covered her and walked away. She muttered her final words "Too late. This is fidelity." Leaving her remembered as a Tyrant emperor.

Noble Phantasms

Red Saber's basic Noble Phantasm is a skill called "Imperial Privilege". It allows her to Hijack other's abilities, such as Noble Phantasms, or simply skills, like driving a car. But she never retains the skills after her Noble Phantasm is over because of the migraines from when her mother poisoned her in her past life.

Red Saber's next Noble Phantasm Domus Aurea, is one of the reasons she's considered an heroic spirit on par of more of that of a divine spirit. Aestus Domus Aurea is similar to that of a reality marble. A separate dimension, designed of that of the theater she built in place of the buildings that burned down in The Great Roman Fire. It's impossible to escape and Red Saber can alter the landscape at will. While in the theater her sword becomes covered in flames and allows her to activate the skill, "Laus Saint Claudius, Imperium of The Maiden's Flowery Words." As well as the skill "Thrice Setting Sun/ Invictus Spirit. Thrice, Though I welcome the setting Sun." The latter being the ability to revive herself if she dies in battle for three times.
