Reedley International School (RIS) is a private nonsectarian K-12 international school located in Pasig City, Manila, Philippines. It is one of only six international schools accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in the Philippines. It is also a regular member of the Council of International Schools (CIS).

Reedley offers both traditional and progressive education. It is known for its culture of kindness in a nurturing school environment.

History[edit]

Reedley has its roots as a review center that provided personalized teaching to prepare students for university. In response to a clamor from the parents of its students, Reedley introduced High School education in 2000 at a building in Libis, Quezon City. Eighty students enrolled in Reedley High School in its maiden year.[1]

In 2001, Reedley opened its Lower and Middle School levels. With 250 students at that time, it moved to a larger building in Pasig City. By 2006, Reedley’s population had doubled to 500 students of 19 different nationalities, and the school transferred to a more spacious building in Libis, Quezon City.

With the student population continuously growing, Reedley in 2016 moved to its own eight-story building in Pasig City which is now its permanent home.

Reedley received its first WASC six-year accreditation in 2013. In 2018, it received its School of Character accreditation, issued by the Thomas Lickona Institute for Asia. In 2019, Reedley’s WASC accreditation was renewed for another six years.

The two trees growing together represent the spirit of collaboration and cooperation that is evident in Reedley. They symbolize the teachers working together with the parents, hand in hand.

The four lines represent the four original core values on which the school was founded – the values of Family, Nurture, Self-Discipline, and Self Actualization.

Campus[edit]

Reedley is located in J. Cruz St., Brgy. Ugong, Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines.[2] It is an 8-story building with a floor area of 10,000 square meters that is designed for effective learning.

The campus has spacious and air-conditioned classrooms that provide an interactive and conducive learning environment. It also houses Kindergarten indoor and outdoor play areas, two libraries, a sports gymnasium, a science laboratory, a computer laboratory, a multi-purpose hall, and a cafeteria.

Curriculum[edit]

Reedley’s Mathematics and Science programs adhere to Singapore’s academic standards. The school’s English Language Arts and Social Studies programs adopt Ohio and Common Core Standards and Aero Common Core Plus Standards, respectively. Its Humanities course is based on the McRel academic program. Reedley follows the Department of Education’s K-12 academic regulations.[2]

To further improve on academic instruction and student learning, Reedley students take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests yearly so that each student’s progress and stumbling blocks in each subject can be assessed and academic goals can be set to improve each student’s motivation and performance.[3]

The MAP is a test that assesses progress in Math, Reading, and Science-based on international academic standards.[2] It is capable of pinpointing what the student currently knows, what they are ready to learn, and what their learning gaps are, thus accommodating every students’ unique learning abilities and traits.

Supplementary Learning Programs[edit]

Reedley offers supplementary learning programs to students who may need further enrichment in fundamental subjects and skills.

Center for Individualized Academic Programs (CIAP)[edit]

CIAP caters to high-functioning students with mild conditions of learning disability or neuro-developmental conditions. Features of this program include smaller class sizes of 6 and Individualized Learning Plans to help each child master academic concepts better and address skills gaps. CIAP is intended for Kindergarten to Middle School 6.[4]

Small Class Program (SCP)[edit]

Small Class Program is a scaffolding program offered to students in Junior High (Grades 7 to 10) who need the necessary study skills to excel academically in a larger class size and will benefit from personalized attention, closer supervision, and proper guidance.

Personalized Guided Learning Program (PGLP)[edit]

PGLP is a program that provides intensive and individualized instruction and intervention to students who have learning difficulties and differences. It offers Study Skills as a subject and Student Mentoring as part of its individualized services. Teachers work hand in hand with each child's allied service providers which may include developmental pediatricians, psychologists, and or physical and occupational therapists.
