Reekon Tools Incorporated (stylized REEKON Tools) is an American construction equipment company based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 2020, the company develops and manufactures digital measurement tools that are used on construction sites and home improvement projects. It is most well known for raising more than $4.2 million in crowdfunding campaigns[1] and developing the T1 Tomahawk Digital Tape Measure, M1 Caliber Digital Measuring Tool, and accompanying ROCK Jobsite software.[2]

History[edit]

REEKON Tools was founded by Christian Reed and Konstantinos Oikonomopoulos who met while working together on the Form 3 printer development at Formlabs. Drawing from their background in engineering projects as well as Reed’s experience at the MIT Media Lab,[3] they set out to create digital tools that speed up professional workflows.[4]

The company was officially founded in January 2020 to develop a line of digital construction tools that would digitally display and capture data generated on the job site.  After raising more than $1.2 million in their kickstarter campaign[5] for their first product, the M1 Caliber, REEKON continued to develop hardware and software products.

In 2022, REEKON launched the T1 Tomahawk Digital Tape Measuring, raising more than $1.1 million in the first 24 hours[6] and won a Time Invention of the Year Award[7], Special Mention. Leveraging social media to promote the launch, REEKON found success across multiple platforms with multiple videos receiving more than 10 million views. Within a few months of the T1 Tomahawk announcement, the company had over 1.2 million followers on TikTok, more than brands such as Milwaukee Tools and DeWalt have combined in their history on the platform.[8]

In January 2023, in its first year exhibiting, REEKON Tools won a CES Innovation Award in Smart Homes for its T1 Tomahawk Digital Tape Measure[9] and was featured in the top 20 of the annual TechCrunch Startup Battlefield.[10] In 2024, a demonstration of the ROCK Jobsite App highlighting the features of Virtual Reality in construction, running on the Apple Vision Pro, quickly gained millions of views across social media.[11]

Products[edit]

M1 Caliber Miter Saw Measure[edit]

In June 2020, REEKON launched the M1 Caliber Measuring Tool to digitally display measurements of materials.[12] It can measure any flat material that fits and can be slid underneath its wheel.[13] The M1 Caliber augments existing, analog tools, by clamping onto flat surfaces and providing digital measurement outputs.[14]

T1 Tomahawk Digital Tape Measure[edit]

In March 2022, REEKON Tools announced and launched its Digital Tape Measure, raising more than $2.4 million in its second Kickstarter campaign.[15] It connects over bluetooth and can share measurements across users[16] with the ROCK App over Bluetooth. The tape measure has both an OLED display and an e-paper display for showing current and stored measurements.[17]

ROCK Mobile App[edit]

The ROCK Mobile App works on iOS and Android devices and connects REEKON products together and allows for the sharing of measurements, calculations, and images.[18]
