- Comment: icannwiki.org is user edited so not a reliable source, https://www.icann.org/registrants is a register, not a reliable source, www.iana.org is a database, help.superhosting.bg is a primary source Theroadislong (talk) 16:54, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

Register.BG is the organization that operates the Bulgarian National Internet Domain Registry .bg.[1][2] (ccTLD).
The Registry follows the model based on the Registry-Registrar-Registrant principle.[3]
The Registrant can choose a Registrar company where to register the domain name.[4][5] The Registrar, which is a company accredited by the Registry, assumes the obligation to serve the Registrant, as well as to keep the records stored in the Registry up to date. In the event that the Registrar ceases his activity, his function will be taken over by the Last Resort Registrar operated by Register.BG.
Register.BG is a member of the international Country Code Name Supporting Organization - ICANN ccNSO.[6]
Register.BG is a full member of the Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries.[7]
History
[edit]Register.BG was founded on 11.10.2001[8]. Until then, this activity was carried out by "Digital Systems" - the first Internet provider in Bulgaria, which, in addition to domain registration, also offers a wide range of network services.
After 2001, the registry functions were taken over by a newly created company, with the main focus of domain name registration and management of the .bg ccTLD zone[9]
In 2007 Register.BG completed the implementation of DNSSEC in the .bg zone and the sub-zones, and on 15.01.2007 signed the .bg zone and the sub-zones, thus becoming the second Registry in the world to sign its TLD zone after the Swedish Registry. The possibility for identity theft of web and other information servers of the internet users is prevented through the DNSSEC technology.
During the meeting of ICANN in Lisbon in the spring of 2007, Register.BG, together with the ccTLD registries of Greece, Russia, and others, proposed to ICANN launching of a procedure for an accelerated delegation of IDN ccTLD. Subsequently, the procedure became IDN ccTLD Fast Track Process.
On 29.08.2007 Register.BG provided the users access to DNSSEC interface which allows each registrant of domain names in the .bg zone and the sub-zones to manage and setup DNSSEC using digital signature certificates.
Register.BG is the first TLD Registry in the world that has implemented a technology for automated DNSSEC management and setup. The DNSSEC service is provided by Register.BG without an extra fee.[10]
