Rhoda Ofori-Attah is a British actress. She is known for her roles in the Netflix series You and Shadow and Bone.[1][2][3][4]
Early life[edit]
Ofori-Attah was born in Bekwai, Ghana and raised in the United Kingdom. She spent her early years in Glasgow and Cambridge before her family settled in Yorkshire. Ofori-Attah decided to pursue a career in acting and trained at the Oxford School of Drama. Her sister, Grace, a writer, took part in the BAFTA Elevate programme in 2018.[5]
Career[edit]
Ofori-Attah portrayed the character of Detective Monifa Sunday in the Netflix series You..[1] She also starred in the short film "Dream Big," which tells the story of Miranda, a woman who discovers she can control the destinies of those around her through her model railway.[3]
In 2019, Ofori-Attah was inducted as a new member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), a testament to her contributions to the industry.[2] She was also part of the 21 talented actors welcomed to BAFTA's Elevate programme in 2019-2020. The programme is designed to support people from underrepresented groups in the screen industries progress their careers and encourage inclusion across the industries.[5]
Rhoda's television career began with a role in "Rose and Maloney" (ITV). She subsequently appeared in "The Bill" (ITV), "Grownups" (BBC Three), and "Coronation Street" (ITV). Her career took a significant turn in recent years with notable roles such as Edith in "Last Tango in Halifax" (BBC) in 2016, and Stella in the "Silent Witness" two-parter ‘Remembrance’ (BBC) in 2017. She also had roles in the feature film "Tulip Fever" (2017) and television series "Trust Me" (BBC), "Cold Feet" (ITV), "Doctors" (BBC), and "Holby City" (BBC).
Rhoda's recent work includes roles in "Informer" (BBC), "Dark Heart" (ITV), and "Temple" (Sky). In 2019, she joined the cast of the critically acclaimed show "Top Boy". She also appears in the third season of "Sex Education" (Netflix). Rhoda can currently be seen in Uberto Pasolina’s film, "Nowhere Special" (2020), starring James Norton.
In addition to her acting career, Rhoda is a qualified pharmacist and has been working on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic.[5]
