Rifat Gjota (May 5, 1939 – January 17, 2022) was an Electrical Engineer, University Professor and an Albanian Inventor of the Gjota generators and electromotors. He completed his primary and secondary education in Kosovo before graduating from the Electrotechnical Faculty of the University of Skopje in 1965. He earned his master's degree from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Zagreb in 1977 and obtained his doctorate from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pristina in 1985. Following this, he served as a professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Pristina for several years.[1]

For more than two decades, Dr. Rifat Gjota dedicated himself to pioneering an advanced electric motor design, significantly enhancing energy efficiency and reducing copper requirements for construction. He patented these innovations in the US under "US Patent 4710661 - Winding arrangement of a stator and/or rotor of a three-phase generator or electromotor with improved performances," and the method he devised for constructing these electromotors was termed "refinishing." His groundbreaking discovery of complementary rotating electromagnetic fields expanded the realm of electromagnetic rotary machine winding methods. This achievement, characterized by adding an extra 90-degree phased spiral in space and time, reduced opposing harmonic forces, bringing the rotating field closer to the ideal curve and resulting in over 5% energy savings. Kosovo's electrical economy saw the deployment of the first 400 KW motor based on Dr. Rifat Gjota's innovations, while numerous other repainted engines now power various factories and workshops across the region. Dr. Rifat Gjota's work in spherization significantly contributes to advancing mathematical and spatial studies.[2][3] His authored work "Complementary-Complex Electric Machines" debuted in 2005. Additionally, an agreement was inked with the Bosnian company "Elir" in Tuzlla for the production of these engines. On January 17, 2022, Rifta Gjota died from a Stroke.[4]
