Roz Li is a Filipino-American retired architect and architectural preservationist.[1] She is the Principal emerita for Li/Saltzman Architects, P.C. (LSA) in New York. Li also co-founded Bakás Pilipinas (Philippine Historic Preservation Society), a New York-based non-profit organization supporting the conservation and restoration of historic architecture and sites in the Philippines.[2] Li has received the Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award by the New York Landmarks Conservancy for a number of her preservation projects in the New York metropolitan area.[3] She was also the head of the preservation program at the School of Architecture at the University of Tennessee.[4]

Li received her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas College of Architecture in Manila, Philippines. She later earned a Master in Historic Preservation from Columbia University.[3]
Career[edit]
In 1982, Li co-founded Li/Saltzman Architects P.C. alongside Judith Saltzman. The architectural office has been recognized as a Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBENC). Li is a LEED Accredited Professional expanding her expertise by teaching preservation at the Graduate School of Architecture and Planning at Columbia University and the School of Architecture at the University of Tennessee.[4] Roz also actively served as a panelist for renowned organizations such as the Architecture, Planning and Design Program of the New York State Council on the Arts, the Design Arts Program of the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New Jersey State Review Committee for Historic Sites.
Roz retired from her architectural practice in August 2012 but still holds professional registration in various regions, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Virginia, and the Philippines. She co-founded Bakás Pilipinas (Philippine Historic Preservation Society), a New York-based non-profit organization.[2] Through this platform, she organizes preservation training programs, including the international symposium in Manila, Philippines in 2016 on the vital subject of "Seismic Retrofit of Unreinforced Masonry Heritage Churches in the Philippines."[5]
Li and her architectural office, along with her partner Judith Saltzman were recognized by the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation's Built by Women New York City Competition (BxW NYC).[6] Their office have won a number of preservation awards for their historic restoration and preservation work across New York with one being their restoration efforts for New York's Brown Memorial Baptist Church.[7][8][9]
Major projects[edit]
Throughout her career, Ms. Li played a crucial role as the principal in charge of several award-winning landmark preservation projects in the New York metropolitan area. Some of her notable projects include the New York City Center, Brown Memorial Baptist Church, West Point Foundry Reserve, Biltmore Theater Interior Restoration, Hudson River Park Historic Bulkhead Restoration (2004), Sing Sing Historic Prison Concept Design (2000), Emmanuel Baptist Church, and the Quiapo Museum in the Philippines. Through Bakás Pilipinas, Li is fostering various heritage projects in the Philippines, mainly the restoration of the damaged Antequera Church in Bohol and the preservation and restoration of San Sebastian Basilica in Manila.[10]
Li, through her work at LAS, has won the Landmark Preservation Commissions awards for 339 East 140th Street restoration.[11] She was also the Project architect for two projects that received the New York Landmarks Conservancy Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award: in 2003 for the interior restoration of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and in 2004 for the interior restoration of the Biltmore Theatre.[3]
