This Sub Clan Of Gaur Rajputs Is Called Surwar Because It Originates From A Village Named Surpur In Rajasthan.[1][2]During The Reign Of Jahangir,Dushashan Shah Got The Mirzapur District And His Son Sarangdhar Got The Jagir Of Dhavaddad ( District Shahabd,Bihar) And Tilothu.The Princely States Of The Branch Are Chainpur,Ranka And Palamu[3][4].All These Princly States Are In Bihar And Jharkhand Now.Apart From The Mentioned Places,Kshatriyas Of This Dynasty Are Found In Beanras,Ballia,Jaunpur,Ghazipur Of Uttar Pradesh And Palamu,Gaya,Vaishali Of Bihar.They Are Of Solar Race And Have Garg Gotra.They Are Also Mentioned In The Oldest Maithili Text In Existence The Rajputrakul Varanakar,Which Gives Info About The Royal Races.[5]
RANKA PRINCELY STATE
Ranka Raj, located in Jharkhand, was founded by Raja Dusashan Shah around 1560 AD. Raja Dusashan Shah belonged to the Gaur Rajputs and initially settled at Sheopur. He also served as a commander in the imperial army.
The descendants of this family are known as Surwar, deriving their name from their settlement of Surpur.
