Sava Arsić (Serbian Cyrillic: Сава Арсић; Arad, Austrian Empire, 5 May 1760 – Arad, Austrian Empire, 27 March 1824)[1] was a famous Serbian merchant and lessee, [2] who became a town captain at the beginning of the 19th century (mayor) of the city of Arad, in the era when the Banat was in the possession of the Habsburg imperial dynasty.[3]He was married to Eustahija Arsić, a well-known Serbian writer.
As mayor, especially due to the merits of founding and opening the Preparandia (Teacher's College), Sava was ennobled by the Viennese court. He was mayor of Arad between from 1814 to 1818 and from 1821 to 1823, and director of the Arad's Teacher's College, known as Preparandia in Romanian and Serbian.
In 1815, Sava Arsić, the mayor of Arad, decided to grant eight acres of land to each teacher, regardless of denomination.[4]
The tombstone of Sava Arsić, former mayor of Arad, is built into the wall of the Serbian Church in Arad.[5]
