Scrapyard (stylized in all caps) is the fifth mixtape by American musician Quadeca. It was released on February 16, 2024, via DeadAir Records.[1]

The mixtape is composed mostly of songs that were created over the past few years but were never officially released.[2]

The Scrapyard concept was originally introduced in October 2023 as "The Scrapyard Series", which planned to release "5 packs of 2 songs" every 2-3 weeks.

Similar to Lasky's previous album, I Didn't Mean to Haunt You, Scrapyard is completely self-produced and self-mixed.[3]

Background and recording[edit]

On September 28, Lasky posted a photo with him and American musicians Brakence with the caption "A LA CARTE".[4] This was later revealed to be a song apart of "The Scrapyard Series". Lasky described in an X post that the series would consist of "5 packs of 2 songs", with a "new pack every 2-3 weeks". Lasky further stated that each songs would be a different style. The first pack, titled Scrapyard I (stylized in all-caps), contained two songs, "A La Carte" (featuring Brakence), and "U Don't Know Me Like That" (the former being the song teased in the earlier post). Scrapyard I was released on October 11, 2023. A music video accompanying "A La Carte" was released the same day.

One week after the first pack's release, Lasky posted photos of himself in an actual scrapyard with the caption "SCRAPYARD II".[5] Lasky officially announced it on October 23, with the release date set for October 30.[6] Four days before the release, Lasky released the music video for one of the songs on the pack, "I Make It Look Effortless", which featured him performing various soccer trickshots.[7] The pack was released on October 30, and featured the songs "Dustcutter", "Under My Skin" and "I Make It Look Effortless".[8] The music video for "Dustcutter" features Lasky using sign language, although he has stated that the signing was not a direct translation.[9]

On November 14, Lasky teased the release of the third pack, stating that it would be the best one. The announcement for it came two days later, with the songs "Even If I Tried", "Easier", and "Guess Who?".[10] On the day of the pack's release, a music video for "Guess Who?" was released, shot in Portugal.[11][12] The next day, a music video for "Easier" was also released.[13]

On November 26, Lasky posted a photo of him with musician Kevin Abstract, following a tweet from Kevin stating that he had been listening to "Easier". A screenshot of a song titled "ill be honest kev abstract" was posted by Lasky.[14][15]

Although two more packs were planned to be released, Lasky announced on Christmas Day that the release of Scrapyard 4 (and subsequently Scrapyard 5) would be cancelled due to "new developments". He reassured that Scrapyard was not finished. [16]

On February 6, 2024, Lasky officially announced Scrapyard, set to be released ten days later on February 16.[17] The collaboration with Kevin Abstract was also been confirmed to be on the mixtape.[18] The day before the mixtape's release, a music video for the song "Way Too Many Friends", along with the mixtape's tracklist, were released.[19]

Release and reception[edit]

The full mixtape was released on February 16, 2024 to positive reception. Online music critic TheNeedleDrop gave the album a 9/10, stating that "there are powerful, emotional, personal, and well-thought out...bangers from front to back on [Scrapyard]".[20]

The vinyl record for Scrapyard was released on May 7, 2024. The C-Side features unreleased songs from the album, which he would later upload to YouTube as "songs ill never release".[21]
