Draft:Seterra

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seterra is a 1997 geography quiz game in which players must mouse-click on various geographical locations such as countries and their capitals displayed on a map. It was initially released as a downloadable program for Windows systems. In 2011, Seterra was released as a web game, causing an increase in popularity. In 2016 it was also released as an app on iOS.[1] The game has a prominent speedrunning scene which became more popular during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was sold to GeoGuessr in October 2021, which was announced by the lead developer (Marianne Wartoft) on March 25, 2022.

Seterra is used in multiple schools as a tool for learning geographical locations.[2] It features maps for flags, capitals, and locations of all countries, as well as historical maps and maps for physical features across the world. The game also contains some scientific materials, such as the periodic table.

Gameplay[edit]

Interface[edit]

Most Seterra quizzes are played on a map showing the area being quizzed. Successfully clicking on all of the locations will reveal an end screen, showing the percentage of correct clicks and the time it took to complete. A semi-transparent bar at the top of the map displays the time, percentage of correct clicks, amount of countries total and how many of those have been clicked in the top left, and the country's flag in the top right. Below the map is a bar that shows gamemodes, settings, and a restart button.
