Shikha Dhiman (born 1993 in Delhi) is an Indian physical-organic chemist, known for her work in the fields of supramolecular chemistry, materials chemistry and lifelike materials. Dhiman, who is a young yet reknowned professor of Supramolecular Chemistry at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and Junior Faculty of the Max Planck Graduate Center Mainz[1] in Germany. Her research interests are driven from understanding how nature works and utilizing this knowledge for creating synthetic lifelike and bioinspired systems and materials. Her focus is to understand structure and dynamics at the molecular level and to correlate them with their function using advanced techniques.

Education

She studied Chemistry at the Hindu College, University of Delhi for her Bachelor's degree and then moved to Bangalore in 2014 to do an Integrated Ph.D. at the New Chemistry Unit of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR). For her Ph.D., she worked with Prof. Subi J. George with a focus on developing strategies for non-equilibrium transient systems and materials.

Career

Her love for science then took her to the Netherlands in 2020, where she joined Prof. E. W. (Bert) Meijer's team at the Eindhoven University of Technology as a postdoctoral researcher. While in Eindhoven, she received several awards, including the Marie-Curie fellowship, ICMS fellowship, WIMA award[2],[3] and was selected as a Rising Star[4] by the University of Freiburg, Germany. In 2023, she became a Junior Professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and in 2024, she was selected for the Thieme Chemistry Award.[5] Since 2024, she is a Professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany. Her scientific contributions are highlighted by various journals, and news.[6][7][8][9]
