Draft:Silvermouse

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Silvermouse is a psychedelic livetronica / jamtronica duo that uses brainwave entrainment technology to induce substance-free experiences of altered states. The band is known for creating immersive soundscapes rooted in cosmic concepts and the natural cycles of the earth. They blend UK rave culture and American jam-rock influences, creating a distinctive style that incorporates bass, violin, guitar, synths, percussive rhythms, and improvisational live performances that alter people’s neural patterns.

History and Style[edit]

Silvermouse was formed in Cerrillos, New Mexico, in 2008. Consisting of Joanne Hunt, a live electronic music producer, and Justin Handley, a multi-instrumentalist whose repertoire includes guitar, violin, mandolin, flute, ukulele, and others, they started their musical career playing in small bars and art galleries in Santa Fe:[1], including a show at arts production company Meow Wolf in their very early days.

Their music is characterized by a psycho-spiritual journey by creating immersive audio spaces that invoke altered states[2]. On March 18, 2022, Silvermouse broke new ground by integrating advanced brainwave entrainment technologies into a live performance: something that had previously only been done on recordings[3] (similar to binaural beats, or isochronic tones, a repetitive beat frequency that triggers the frequency following response in the brain).

They have since continued to pioneer the use of consciousness-altering technology in live music in partnership with the Monroe Institute, a nonprofit that studies expanded states of consciousness, including experiments with 3D soundscapes, an algorithmic technology that simulates instruments moving around the listener.[4]

Tours[edit]

The band has toured since 2009, primarily in the U.K., U.S., and Puerto Rico. Some notable festivals they have played include [Glade Festival] (2009), [Burning Man] (2011), [Boomtown Fair] (2013), and [Shambala Festival] (2013).[6] Since 2018, the band has been mostly producing their own intimate performance experiences at venues in Puerto Rico and the U.S. East Coast. The upcoming "Beyond Tour" will bring their psychoactive live music to global audiences in 2024.

Reviews and Reception[edit]

Silvermouse's work has been well-received, with critics noting their music's ability to induce a meditative, dream-like state that explores heightened awareness. Their diverse musical influences and experimental approach has been described as transcendent, altering the experience of time and space by inducing a meditative experience that is like a waking dream. Their layered sound takes listeners and concert attendees on a psychoactive journey through sonic landscapes, reviewers say, with a sound that is alien and original while paying homage to the past half-century of music history.[7]
