"Smokahontas" is a song by American metalcore band Attack Attack!. It was released on May 25, 2010, as the second single from their self-titled second studio album.[2]
Background[edit]
In an interview with Alternative Press, former vocalist and rhythm guitarist Johnny Franck spoke about where title came from, "One night, we were trying to come up with funny [marijuana-related] names like 'Chronic The Hedgehog' and 'Tom Danks'. This one was just too funny not to put on our album."[3] Franck also added that the song is about "how you have nothing without love."[3]
Composition[edit]
"Smokahontas" was written by Andrew Whiting, Andrew Wetzel,Caleb Shomo, John Holgado and Johnny Franck, while production was handled by Joey Sturgis.[4] The track has been described as trancecore, incorporating dub-step, hardcore, metalcore, pop and dance-pop music.[3] In 2016, an isolated vocal track surfaced on Facebook.[5]
Critical reception[edit]
Sergeant D of MetalSucks praised the track calling it, "pretty fucking good." He also added how the group stood out among their peers within the same genre.[1]
Music video[edit]
On December 9, 2010, a teaser video for "Smokahontas" was released, which features appearances from Sean Mackowski of My Ticket Home and former vocalist of In Fear And Faith Cody Anderson.[6] The official music video premiered on January 21, 2011, and was directed by Thunder Down Country.[7] A live video for the song was released on January 27, through their website.[8]
