Sophie Perinot is an American writer known for her works of historical fiction, and more recently as the author of dual-timeline crime fiction/mystery under the penname Evie Hawtrey.

Perinot has written novels spanning a vast timeline—taking readers from a doomed ancient Pompeii, to the chaos of the French Revolution, to modern-day London.

In addition to solo novels, Perinot has collaborated on books with authors including Kate Quinn, Ben Kane, Eliza Knight, and Heather Webb. Television rights for A Day of Fire: A Novel of Pompeii, sold to Amazon UK / MGM Studios and Scott Free Productions for development as a limited television series with Ridley Scott producing.[1]

Perinot’s novel Médicis Daughter was reviewed positively in Kirkus Reviews.[2] While A Day of Fire and Ribbons of Scarlet were “Editor’s Choice” selections in the Historical Reviews Magazine.[3][4] Ribbons of Scarlett also received a starred review in Booklist.[5] Perinot’s work has been published by St. Martin’s Press, Berkley/Penguin Group, and William Morrow. Additionally, as Evie Hawtrey she’s been published by mystery publisher, Crooked Lane Books.

An active member of the Historical Novel Society, Perinot has served as a panelist at several of the organization’s North American conferences—offering craft and business advice to writers in the genre. Sophie has also been featured in The Writer Magazine between 2021 and 2023.[6][7][8]

Early life and education

Perinot is a native of Northeast Ohio. She graduated with honors from the College of Wooster with a BA in history, then went on to earn her law degree at Northwestern University School of Law.[citation needed]
