Stanley R. Reinartz (April 21 1933–) was manager of the Special Projects Office at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. He assumed these duties in April 1986 after serving as manager of the Shuttle Projects Office.[1]

A native of Kentucky, Reinartz was born in Ashland on April 21, 1933. He attended Ashland Senior High School before graduating from Middletown Senior High School in Middletown, Ohio, in 1951. In 1956, he received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati.[1]

Reinartz came to Huntsville in April 1957 as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was research and development project officer with the Army Ballistic Missile Agency, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, from April 1957 until December 1958. Upon discharge from the service, he accepted a civilian position with the same agency and transfered to NASA in July 1960 when the Development Operations Division of the Army Ballistic Missile Agency became the nucleus for establishment of the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center.[1]

At the Marshall Center, Reinartz has served in various engineering and management positions. He was deputy director of the Saturn 1/lB Launch Vehicle and the Skylab Program offices, acting deputy director of the astronautics Laboratory and director of the test Laboratory before transferring to the Spacelab Payload Project Office in December 1976. He became manager of the Inertial Upper Stage Project in July 1980 before returning to the Spacelab Payload Project Office in 1982. He previously served as manager of the Special Projects Office, from July 1984 to August 1985, when he became manager of the Shuttle Projects Office.[1]

For his contributions to the success of the Apollo program, Reinartz was awarded the NASA Exceptional Service Medal in October 1969. In October 1973, he received the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal for his services as deputy manager of the Skylab Program Office.[1]

The son of Mrs. C. Herbert Reinartz and the late Mr. Reinartz of Middletown, he is married to the former Barbara Jean Reau, also of Middletown. The couple has three children.[1]
