Stephen Maitland-Lewis (born November 22, 1944) is a novelist and playwright.[1][2][3][4]
Early Life
[edit]Born in England, Maitland-Lewis attended Uppingham School in Rutland and Westbourne School in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He then attended Sheffield University and received a Bachelor Laws (1966) and Masters of Laws (1970) from College of Law, London. Maitland-Lewis was admitted to the Law Society of London in 1969 as a Solicitor. He divides his time between New Orleans,[5][6] Louisiana, and California.
Career
[edit]Maitland-Lewis is an author and member of PEN America,The Authors Guild,and the Dramatists Guild. He is also a member of the Worshipful Company of Solicitors,London and Freeman of the City of London. Personal: Maitland-Lewis is on the advisory board and of the California Jazz Foundation.[7] Maitland-Lewis is a trustee and Board Treasurer of the Louis Armstrong House Museum[8][9] in New York. In 2014, the Louie Armstrong House Museum presented Maitland-Lewis with the Louie Award[10] which "honors those who have worked to pre-serve and promote the cultural legacy of the legendary jazz musician. " He and his late wife, Joni Berry have sponsored the annual Satchmo Summer Fest in New Orleans.[11]
