Su-Hwang Cho (Korean: 조수황) is a renowned South Korean traditional musician, specializing in Korean traditional music. He was born in Seoul on September 19, 1996, and has been active in the field since 2006.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Cho was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. Influenced by his maternal family's strong background in traditional Korean music[1], he grew up learning southern Korean folk songs like Yukjabegi[2] and Heungtaryeong[3]. Cho began formal training under traditional singer Shin Young-hee at age 11. He completed his education at Gyeongbok Elementary School, National Gugak Middle School, National Gugak High School, and Seoul National University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Korean Traditional Music.

Career[edit]

Cho's career began in 2006. He registered as a student under the 5th Intangible Cultural Heritage of Korea, Pansori (Chunhyangga: Shin Young-hee), in 2013 and became a certified practitioner in 2016. He joined the National Changgeuk Company in 2023. Cho has been a prominent figure in traditional Korean music, performing extensively in South Korea and internationally.
