The Susa Mosque Massacre occurred[2] in the village of Susa, also known as Yolaç, located in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır Province, southeastern Turkey. During this period, the PKK was engaged in an armed struggle against the Turkish state The region had a strong religious identity, with local communities actively participating in Islamic practices and education.

The Attack

On the evening of June 26, 1992, PKK militants, surrounded the Susa Mosque where worshippers had gathered for the evening prayers. The attackers entered the mosque, forcibly removed the congregants, and executed them outside. The militants bound the hands of the worshippers and taunted them before opening fire. Ten people were killed, including the mosque's imam, Abdul Khaluk Ugaş, and several members of the Kantar and Fidancı families. Five others were injured in the attack.

Aftermath

The massacre sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting the severe impact of the ongoing conflict between the PKK and Turkish security forces on local communities.
