Synergy Marine Group Synergy Marine is an international ship management firm headquartered in Singapore. They offer a comprehensive range of services, including full technical management, commercial management, crew management, new shipbuilding, maritime training, insurance, IT solutions, and ship recycling. With a workforce of approximately 24,000 seafarers and 2,200 shore-based employees, the company stands as a significant player in the maritime industry.
History
The Synergy Group was founded in 2006 by Capt. Rajesh Unni.
The Group offers technical management services for an array of vessels, such as LNG and LPG carriers, chemical tankers, VLCCs, among others. They're also recognized for their expertise in shipbuilding and conversion. Notably, they managed the transformation of a 1992-built LNG carrier into a Floating Storage Unit (FSU) at Singapore's Sembcorp Marine’s Admiralty Yard. In addition, Synergy extends services in training, insurance, IT, and vessel recycling.
Their proprietary digital tool, SMARTShip, installed in over 200 vessels, plays a pivotal role in voyage optimization, providing real-time data analysis on factors like speed, route, machinery efficiency, hull status, and prevailing weather conditions.
Achievements
In August 2022, A Synergy-managed chemical tanker became the first vessel to call at an Indian port while being biofuel-powered. The ship is one of the company’s vessels pioneering biofuel usage. The fuel was branded VLSFO B-30. It offers a well-to-exhaust carbon dioxide reduction of 23%-27% without engine or fuel infrastructure modification.
Employee Initiatives
In October 2014, in collaboration with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), Synergy established the marine advanced simulation training facility (MAST) in Chennai, India, which offers high-end simulators for training purposes. In line with their commitment to employee welfare, the Group introduced custom-made PPE for female seafarers in March 2023. Furthermore, in October 2022, Captain Unni, the founder, extended equity offerings to staff members. Throughout the Covid-19 crisis, the Group championed seafarers' rights and has been a vocal advocate for decarbonization.
Locations
Beyond its Singapore headquarters, Synergy has a global footprint with offices spanning multiple continents, from Asia to North America and Europe. Their most recent expansion was in Hamburg, Germany, in August 2021, operated by their subsidiary, Synergy Marine Germany GmbH.
Joint Ventures and Takeovers
In a significant acquisition in September 2021, Synergy Marine took over Maersk Tankers’ technical management operations, encompassing the technical management of 82 ships. By the end of 2021, they entered a partnership with Germany's Oldendorff Carriers , a dry bulk shipping firm, to manage 17 vessels
