Artist[edit]

Timothy Charles-Richard Risk, known as T.R. Risk, is an artist native to Chester County, Pennsylvania. He pushes the boundaries between painting and furniture, noted as “the most transitional artist I have ever come across.”[1] Risk’s furniture and art is timeless and incorporates itself into any space it occupies with ease. Each piece is intended for lifelong use then to be passed down through generations as both a precious and useful heirloom.

Risk has studios in Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Maine.

Furniture[edit]

T.R. Risk has been designing custom rustic furniture and building unique environments since the early 1990's, using his passion for all things hand-wrought to reach his elite clientele across the US and abroad He was ahead of the trend in his passion for sustainability after seeing the long-vacant barns that scattered the landscape of the Brandywine Valley where he was raised. During a weekend home from college he tore down a barn and was given the lumber as his pay. As he continued salvaging materials, Risk's love of bench made hand work grew.

Risk came to amass a stockpile of salvaged lumber and began to build his first piece of furniture. And so, began his career into becoming one of the most sought-after furniture artists in America. Risk aims to build something from the past into something that is both beautiful in its raw form and also functional in today's living. Each piece of Risk's furniture is entirely handmade using reclaimed lumber, architectural salvage, and antique finds, and is then branded with "RR", in honor of Risk's original foundry and salvage company.

Each piece of furniture is a thoughtful take on the remains of what it once was, so the beauty within becomes something much more than an object for function- it is art in its purest form.

Paintings[edit]

Risk paints ethereal landscapes and florals that evoke a bygone era. His paintings lead the viewer into a tranquil world of color, texture, and emotion. His highly textural and often subdued palette is serene and calm yet at times quick and vibrant; compelling us to examine the energy and feeling that lies beneath the surface. Risk states that he is “often overcome by the anticipation of creating. Painting is exhilarating to me and so emotionally fulfilling.”[2] Risk’s paintings tell a deeply personal story that is both beautiful and thought provoking.
