Telavox is a Swedish tech and telecom company founded in 2002. It sells its telephony platform to other companies. Today, Telavox has over 500 employees and more than 150 in-house developers.
Apart from its headquarters in Malmö, Telavox has offices in the following countries: Denmark, Norway, Finland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, and the UK.
History[edit]
Foundation (2002–2003)
Telavox was founded by two Lund University students, Viktor Karlsson and Fredrik Hedberg. They wanted to take what was then an expensive solution – PBX (Private Branch Exchange) – and deliver it to companies of every shape and size while also disrupting the incumbent telephony providers.
In 2003, Telavox launched a cloud PBX service under the name "Centrex" and became one of the world's first vendors of IP telephony.
Nordic expansion
In 2004, Telavox launched a new and improved software application (named 'Flow'). The company reached a turnover of 260M SEK and 200K users. The year after, Telavox launched in Denmark and Norway.
The company moved from Lund to Malmö in 2009, coinciding with Telavox becoming a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in Telia’s network.
In 2016, Telavox won the Digital Gazelle Award and was elected one of Europe's most inspiring companies by the London Stock Exchange Group.
The year after, Telavox launched in Finland and became a full Nordic-wide communication platform.
2018 was the year when Telavox launched in the UK, offering MNOs worldwide the chance to integrate Telavox's platform with their mobile network.
In 2019, Telavox acquired iCentrex and increased its sales by 17% over 2018 to SEK 535 million.
Additional features and rebranding (2020)
2020 was a big year for Telavox, as the company expanded into contact center, launching service-level dashboard and programmable call routing. They also launched a video conferencing solution, which was ideal at the time due to the coronavirus, which had people working from home.
In 2020, TDC in Denmark was added as a network alternative. Telavox also launched eSim in Finland and simplified its branding by replacing the 'Flow' product name with 'Telavox'.
Global expansion (2021–)
In 2021, Telavox expanded in Europe by acquiring the cloud-based communications provider Numintec in Spain and Portugal. They also expanded further by acquiring the cloud solutions provider ALLOcloud in Belgium and France. ALLOcloud and eRate were officially rebranded to Telavox in 2023.
2022 was the year of another acquisition, namely eRate, Norway’s market-leading Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE).
