Tirtawinata (1900 – 1965) was Attorney General of Indonesia from 22 July 1946 till 1951.

He also served as RI Ambassador in several countries.

Tirtawinata was appointed Attorney General on 22 July 1946. During his tenure, there was a change in the Prosecutor's echelons with the establishment of the Attorney General's Branch in certain places among others in Purwokerto. In addition, the position of Attorney General became increasingly strong with the release of Law Number 7 on 3 March 1947. THe law states that the composition of the Attorney General consists of one Attorney General and several High Prosecutors who are appointed and dismissed by the President (Article 1 (2)). These provisions are retroactive from 17 August 1945.

During his tenure, the United States of Indonesia was founded. Tirtawinata then had the honor to be the Attorney General RIS. In contact with that, the duties of the Attorney General in the Republic of Indonesia are based in Yogyakarta, carried out by the Young Attorney General Mr. Muljatno and Mr. Sudajatr. Mr. Tirtawinata was listed as the first Attorney General to appear directly in court as public prosecutor for the incident on 3 July 1946 in Yogyakarta.

The events of 3 July 1946 were experimental events coup d'etat by element military and political like the Major General Sudasarno and Mr. Mohammad Yamin.

After not serving the Attorney General, Tirtawinata served as RI Ambassador namely in Iraq (1951–1953), Pakistan (1954–1956), Australia (1956–1957), and finally Scandinavia (occupied in Stockholm, 1957-1959).

Tirtawinata married Djoewita Tisnakoesoemah and had 7 sons.
