Tomáš Otruba (born 19 September 1972) is Czech investor, lawyer and mountaineer. He founded the investment group Nordic Investors Group
Career
[edit]Between 2004 and 2014, he was a partner of the Czech law firm BBH. After leaving BBH in early 2015, he founded Nordic Investors Group, an investment group focusing on investments in telecommunications, real estate, and information technology.[1][2]
In May 2016, the Nordic Investors Group became the owner of the mobile data network of the operator Air Telecom (later U:fon),[3] which was rebranded to Nordic Telecom in February 2017.[4] In April 2019, Nordic Telecom took control of the fixed internet provider Libli,[5] in January 2020 renamed to Nordic Telecom Regional.[6] In June 2022, all assets and operations of Nordic Telecom were transferred to Nordic Telecom Regional.[7]
He is also the majority owner of the Grand Hotel Hradec in Pec pod Sněžkou.[8] In the Krkonoše mountains, he also majority owns the Omnia hotel in Janské Lázně.[9]
Mountaineering
[edit]Tomáš Otruba is engaged in rock climbing. On 13 May 2022, he became the fifteenth Czech to reach the top of the highest mountain in the world – Mount Everest (8,848.86 m). He climbed to the top via the southern route using oxygen.[10]
At the beginning of 2015, the so-called Seven summits project began, which was successfully completed at the end of 2023 (Aconcagua – January 2015, Denali – June 2015, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Mount Everest – May 2022, Mt. Kosciuszko, Mt. Vinson – December 2023).
In preparation for Mount Everest, he climbed another major peak in 2021: the seventh highest mountain in the world - Dhaulagiri (8167 m). He returned to the Himalayas again a year later (May 2023), when he added another Himalayan peak, Ama Dablam (6812 m), to his collection.[11]
