The Tomorrow River State Trail is a multi-use trail in central Wisconsin. It runs from southeast Plover to just west of Manawa, with a small gap in the trail near Amherst Junction.
Route[edit]
The Tomorrow River State Trail is an example of a "rail trail" whose route is derived from a former active railroad corridor.[1] This type of trail is common among state trails in Wisconsin.[1] Geographically, the trail displays both the Central Plain and Northern Highland regions of Wisconsin, being near the boundary between the regions.
The trail begins in Portage County, in Plover city limits.[2] Here at its western terminus the trail is connected to the Green Circle Trail which skirts much of the urban Stevens Point area.
The trail proceeds west, nearing the hamlets of Arnott and Fancher, and, after passing Lake Emily County Park, reaching the village of Amherst Junction.[3] In Amherst Junction, the trail crosses the Tomorrow (Waupaca) River, for which the trail is so named. Here also, the trail has a roughly one-mile (1.6 km) gap in its construction, which can be bypassed easily on local roads.[3]
The trail continues west, crossing into Waupaca County, and going through the villages of Scandinavia and Ogdensburg. The trail's eastern terminus is located at its intersection with Wolf Road, just west of Manawa.[2] Local roads connect rather directly from the terminus into town.
