History

[edit]

Toms River Intermediate South was founded in September 2005 on 1675 Pinewald Rd in Beachwood, Ocean County, New Jersey under Toms River Regional Schools. Intermediate South has done a lot to help its community and others over the years from food drives and fundraisers to donations to military personnel overseas. Throughout its years traditions and yearly events have been added like Club Day, for example, where students get to choose clubs to be in for a day. In 2020 there was a petition to force Intermediate South and other schools to stop using Native Americans as their theme. Toms River Regional Schools, though, has denied requests for Native Americans to stop being used as mascots and themes and the petition was unsuccessful[3]. In October of 2023 there was a stabbing report at a Halloween dance. Two people at the dance did have a medical emergency but it wasn't anything physical or physically caused. In 2024 Intermediate South was given $9,000 to host an athletics program called Unified Sports which is under Special Olympics. There was also an incident on February 26th of 2024 when 4 teens in a car shot at kids who where outside for 8th period P.E with orbeez. They ended up being arrested by the Beachwood police and no one was seriously injured.
